this is EDH, mate, information technology'due south a totally different ball game.
Anyhow, I could say 22 lands, 20 creatures, 18 "other" is average for a 60 cards deck (I'd say 38/xxx/32 for EDH, since the general is an almost-always available creature there's less demand for other creatures in the deck so they're a lower percentage), but ultimately it's all pretty meaningless...Sasaya, orochi ascendant could be perfectly functional at 75/4/21.
The point is, deciding on a decklist based on some template is a bloody waste of time.

True, only.... I recall a good identify to start is:
38 land
5 Tutors
5 Lath Wipes
5 Draw Spells
46 Other Things
ane General
Simply that's not really anything existent.

As darcangel mentioned, there is no fixed dominion for deck configuration merely and then once more, I wouldn't say that building your deck on a template is "a bloody waste matter of time". You need to start off somewhere, anyway.
In general, you will desire to first with 40 lands.
As for the rest of your 60 cards, one of them MUST be a legendary creature. That would be your general. As for the balance, it varies greatly depending on the deck type just 39 creatures - 20 noncreatures is a decent mix.
If yous're going for a tribal theme, you lot will want at least 20 cards of that tribe (e.m. if you're edifice a rat tribe deck, you will want AT To the lowest degree 20 rats in your deck). Note that some noncreatures are "tribal" then you may add together them into your equation (e.g. in a Treefolk Tribal deck, Rootgrapple may count towards fulfiling this blank minimum). Again, this is non a hard and fast rule -- simply something yous can utilize as your starting point. In most cases, you lot would rarely get your desired effect in your first trial run -- tweak it every bit you go about.

I see where you're coming from. When I'm designing a deck, I'll go through and label (in an excel spreadsheet) the cards in the deck as 'draw' 'win con' 'control' etc etc. Then total everything up and see if I'm calorie-free in something ('Hmm, probably need more than a single way to describe cards') or too heavy ('Practise I demand 20 fatties?').
Simply my arroyo is top down, after I've already picked a general, a strategy and scoured Gatherer. I recollect information technology'd be hard to accept even a basic template ratio, since it would change very drastically depending on your general, what you're trying to do, your colors, etc etc.

I just put the cards that I desire to play into a pile and play them. Somewhen the strategy will sort its self out as you add and remove cards.

I start with thirty-35 lands and v-10 mana producing artifact. The more colors a deck has, the more artifacts I apply. If it lacks green I might even become upward to 15 artifacts to add a ramp factor besides. On top of that, I only build off the general, usually with having one focus color. The focus color for Pheldagriff was green, for Oros information technology was Red and for Zur is it blue. By that point, there really isn't a standard ration I utilise, other than I always have 2-3 board wipes and tutors. Cause those are Always helpful.

My totally lame custom set up: Cheese

Oddly, EDH is a format where you can get abroad with running a beast-less deck. Well, if you lot don't count the General as a part of the main deck.
For the record, my best deck runs 12 creatures, 35 lands (nearly of them basics also), and 52 non-land, non-fauna spells. My 2nd-all-time deck has about 36 lands, 1 creature, and 63 not-land, non-animate being spells (but this deck cheats the Brute count by running Token generators and Manlands). Both of them are 5-Color decks.

Lies, I've got a casual multiplayer deck that runs 0 creatures (and zero animate being producers, unless y'all count forbidden orchard) and does quite well. the only wincon is a xx-pt volcanic geyser to the dome.
I'd say that EDH is the format where information technology'south easiest to accept "deviant" deck templates...In near T2 decks you're going to have at least a moderate number of creatures and lands, but in EDH you tin do insane things considering of the certainty your full general gives yous.

I didn't say it was the just format where y'all can do information technology.
Hell, at this signal it's possible for me to supplant all 12 of those creatures in the first deck I mentioned with Planeswalkers. It would be expensive, but and so the deck would exist completely creatureless except for Tokens, the General, and Jura if I run him.

I call back this is excellent advice as a general way to start for someone that's not actually washed much EDH deckbuilding and is looking to have a deck that's solid, if not spectacular.
Many people ignore the "5's" and end upward with something very inconsistent, run out of cards, etc.
Merely actually, it totally depends on the deck....hither are some examples of mine...
Momir Vig Southward's and Yard's turbo-land - 48 land, 19 creatures, 0 lath wipes, a couple tutors (ie, coiling oracle, worldly tutor, etc), bunch of random "philharmonic" pieces and synergies.
My Jhoira (no obliterate, all about infinite turns combo) has maayyyybe x creatures....but I've got a ton of artifacts and sorceries and instants. ....and tears since my favorite land is banned.
Wart (RB) is about 35 lands and a bajillion goblins and maybe 15 other spells tops.
It all depends on what ends upwards beingness more effective - but if you're just starting off, it'south important to have some power to tutor/grab what you lot need, deal with nasty board states, and refill your hand through some method.
And so y'all can fill things in!

It actually just depends on the full general, what sort of deck yous want, etc. Generally, yous want your land count somewhere between thirty-twoscore, depending on the mode and the number of culling mana producers, etc. Other than that, you lot can run up to 0 creatures, all creatures, or whatever you want.
Hell, casual is the scariest and most cleaved format at that place is. It's a world where yous can run four University, Bargains, Mana Crypts and all that jazz.

That's about how I meet it. I have a number of decks now and none of them follow the guideline that I stated above, but they all first with something sort of similar that. Ii of them have 12 Board Sweeps each (gasp!)
If the OP is still interested, you should tell u.s.a. which General and which strategy.
(p.southward - did you say Bajillion?
