What to preach at funerals? Competition!

I came across this interesting quotation in the adjacent Grove Worship booklet, which is about preaching at funerals. There is a prize of a gratuitous copy of the booklet for the first person in comments who can place the somewhat surprising source!

A brief sermon based on the readings is always given after the gospel reading at the funeral liturgy and may besides be given after the readings at the vigil service…Attentive to the grief of those present, the preacher should dwell on God'southward compassionate love and on the paschal mystery of the Lord, every bit proclaimed in the Scripture readings. The preacher should also help the members of the assembly to sympathise that the mystery of God'south love and the mystery of Jesus' victorious expiry and resurrection were present in the life and death of the deceased and that these mysteries are active in their ain lives every bit well. Through the sermon, members of the family unit and customs should receive alleviation and strength to face the expiry of one of their members with a hope nourished past the saving give-and-take of God.
